{"id":455,"date":"2013-12-23T15:11:30","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T23:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/?p=455"},"modified":"2014-09-17T09:54:10","modified_gmt":"2014-09-17T17:54:10","slug":"portola-redwoods-sp-september-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/archives\/455","title":{"rendered":"Portola Redwoods SP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our last camping trip of the season was at Portola Redwoods State Park in San Mateo County.\u00a0\u00a0 The campground is usually booked up during the summer months but we managed to reserve a spot towards the end of the camping season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Portola Redwoods State Park &#8211; September 2<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_30371.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3279 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_30371-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3037\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_30371-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.jenn-and-jeff.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_30371-682x1024.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><strong>013<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rating: 3 out of 5<\/p>\n<p>Location: Located in the heart of San Mateo County about 20 miles southwest of Palo Alto.<\/p>\n<p>Amenities: Flushing toilets and showers<\/p>\n<p>Pets: Allowed at no additional charge<\/p>\n<p>Site: 9<\/p>\n<p>Pros:\u00a0 There are two creeks (Pescadero and Peter&#8217;s Creeks) that run throughout the park and provide campers fabulous views of nature from 18 miles of trails.\u00a0 Campsites are quite large and site 9 had paved parking for three cars!!\u00a0 If you can brave the windy roads that lead to and from the park, you can visit the nearby cities of Palo Alto and various Santa Clara County cities.<\/p>\n<p>Cons:\u00a0 The campground is located at the end of a windy road that isn&#8217;t pleasant for people who get car-sick.\u00a0 Once you arrive at the campground, you will find an area for self check-in, which we have never encountered before.\u00a0 Make sure you have exact change for firewood (you stuff money into envelopes and leave them at the check-in stand), which rings in high at $10\/bundle (good thing they give you a small bundle of kindling to make up for the extra $3). \u00a0 Although sites are large, there aren&#8217;t a lot of flat areas for large tents.\u00a0 Cooking and sleeping were all done at a downward slope.\u00a0 The restrooms weren&#8217;t the greatest nor cleanest.\u00a0 The restroom stall doors offered limited coverage so taller folks will get more than they bargained for.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our last camping trip of the season was at Portola Redwoods State Park in San Mateo County.\u00a0\u00a0 The campground is usually booked up during the summer months but we managed to reserve a spot towards the end of the camping season.
